| Ta Prohm | 9 x 12

$260.00

Original watercolor painting by Stephanie Kurtyka. Cloaked in dappled shadow, the crumbling towers and walls are locked in the gentle muscular embrace of vast root systems and timelessness.

Painting inspired by my trip to Southeast Asia. Ta Prohm, located in Siem Reap, Cambodia, stands as a breathtaking testament to the coexistence of nature and architecture. Ta Prohm’s allure lies in its raw beauty and the reminders it provides of the passage of time. The sight of massive strangler figs and silk-cotton trees enveloping the temple walls creates a surreal atmosphere, where the delicate balance between human creation and the relentless force of the natural world is vividly illustrated. Walking through this temple, I was in awe of the way in which the jungle seems to be swallowing up the monuments. The height of the trees and bulk of the roots (taller than a human) had me feeling like I was an archaeological tomb raider (part of the Tomb Raider movie was actually filmed here).

Ta Prohm

Watercolor and pen with metallic gold watercolor highlights on paper, 9” x 12”
